Message from Fr David Cartwright

Dear friends,

I trust that you and your loved ones are keeping well at this time. I am sure that we are all enjoying the return of some 'normality' to life with the easing of restrictions. The meetings of families and friends are particularly pleasing to many.

We continue to have Mass in our churches and will begin weekday Masses from Monday 16th November. You can see more details in this e-newsletter.

This Friday night our Stewardship Team will meet and this coming Wednesday evening our Mission Team will meet. We are pleased to welcome Alberto Sabato to the Mission Team, representing St James parish.

The Gospel this Sunday challenges us to consider the use of the talents that the Lord has given to each of us. We see these talents hard at work in the wonderful parish staff and volunteers that we have across our communities. It is also an opportunity for each of us to consider whether our God given talents are buried or being put to good use for God and neighbour.

May the Lord continue to bless you and your loved loves.

Fr David Cartwright

Confessions will be available this Sunday morning between 10.00am and 11.00am at Stella Maris Church, Beaumaris.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.

We are now offering the Sacrament of Baptism in our churches. For those seeking Baptism for their children, please contact the parish office at [email protected] or phone on (03) 9589 2271

November - Month of the Holy Souls

It is spiritual work of mercy to pray for the souls of our deceased friends, relatives and benefactors and to have the holy sacrifice of the Mass offered for them.

Remember the beautiful words of Saint Monica as recounted in Saint Augustine’s Confessions, when he was trying to work out where his mother would be buried. Saint Monica said, “Bury my body wherever you will; let not care of it cause you any concern. One thing only I ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord wherever you may be.”

If you would like a Mass offered for deceased loved ones, you can go to and the tab "Support Us", and indicate in the description section your November Mass intention.

Envelopes may also be collected at the rear of both churches, St Joseph's and Stella Maris.

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,
May perpetual light shine upon them,
May their souls, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

St Vincent de Paul Soup Van Christmas Hampers 2020

What a year it has been! At one stage we thought we might not be able to prepare Christmas hampers this year but as it turns out we can, and indeed the need is greater than ever. This is our 16th year and for the past 15 years we have prepared approx. 250 hampers each year. This year we have been asked to prepare 500 hampers for Boarding House residents visited by the St Vincent de Paul Soup Van in North Melbourne and Fitzroy along with a number of gift packs for rough sleepers. Contents, shopping, packing and delivery will look quite a bit different due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Items we would like to include in the hampers are as follows:

- towel, hand towel, face washer, pillow case
- toiletries including toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap (packaged, not loose)
- food items: SVDP have confirmed we are able to include packaged food items that are Christmassy e.g. Christmas chocolates or Christmas shortbreads
- clothing: socks (particular in need for rough sleepers)
- nice Christmas gift e.g. notebook, pen, sudoku puzzle, crossword puzzle

Monetary donations can also be made directly to the Soup Van Christmas Hamper Bank Account

Name: Nazareth Catholic Parish Ricketts Point (Christmas Hamper Account)
BSB Number
: 083 347
Account Number
: 249672590

We will pack hampers this year on Saturday 12th December and St Vincent de Paul will pick them up Sunday 13th December for delivery with the weekly food. It has been a tough year but if you can support the hampers in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Fundraising event for the Holy Lands and our sister parish in Nazareth, Israel

Renew Hope for the Holy Land - 15th November

As travel is still banned and Israel continues in its second lockdown to combat COVID-19 the plight of Christians in Holy Lands is becoming of increasing concern. Our parish has a close association with the town of Nazareth and our friends and contacts at the Basilica of the Annunciation, Habib and his wife Goysana will be speaking about the plight of Nazareth Christians at a special fundraising and education event on 15th November.

As Parish we have been unable to support Terra Santa School in Nazareth or the Parish in our usual manner this year. But there is an opportunity to help those in need in the Holy Lands through a fundraising event being hosted by Select to Give.Org

Please join Habib and Goysana, Jeff Cavins, Gus Lloyd, Dr. D’Ambrosio, Fr. Leo Patalinghug, Deacon Harold Burke-Siver, and a host of other prominent Catholic authors, speakers, and evangelists for a FREE 90-minute virtual event. You will learn more about the situation in the Holy Land and what we can do to assure that the Christian Population doesn’t disappear from the land of Jesus. Please register to hear more. Details on the link below.

Pilgrim Mary Statue is moving again.

It is pleasing to announce that our parish's Pilgrim Statue of Mary is recommencing her journeys around the parish.

Inviting the Statue of Mary to visit your home is always a blessing and an encouragement for prayer, especially for the family to pray together. She is a very easy visitor with only one request, that you say prayers to her every day.

Traditionally it is the rosary or part of the rosary depending upon your situation, with small children one decade of the rosary is usually plenty.

She comes with instructions and we have COVID safe policies for her movement around the parish.

We always welcome more people/families to the roster.

To add yourself or your family to the roster, please contact the parish office at [email protected] or phone on (03) 9589 2271.

Parishes across the world have been impacted by the current crisis and the future remains fragile and uncertain. In these times of drastic change, how can we stand firm in the unchanging word of God? How could we respond to this crisis boldly and thrive instead of surviving by exploring innovative ways to become more missional.

Divine Renovation will be hosting a webinar on the 18th of Nov, 7 pm Sydney time to discuss how crisis can lead to a more mission-driven parish.

Fr Mauro and Cathy Kennedy will be contributors to this webinar along with Kevin Bailey and Hannah Vaughan-Spruce.

We would love to see you there. Please Register here and appreciate if you could share this, so others can join in.
