Message from Parish Priest

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King, the final week of the Church’s Liturgical year. Next week we begin the Season of Advent in preparation for Christmas.

The end of the year is often a time to look back in reflection and we have much to reflect upon this year. It has been a year like we have never had and never hope to have again ! None of us could have imagined the events of this year.

The end of the year can also be a time for us to consider some ‘new years resolutions’. What will the new (liturgical) year look like for me ? For many of us, hopefully it will mean a return to Mass and the Sacraments with some more frequency and normality. Over the past few weeks at Mass, many of you have spoken about the joy at receiving the Eucharist again.

Now that we have the hope of more regular Mass availability, we might consider the place that the Eucharist and the Mass has in my life. Does Jesus truly take the central place in my life? Do I prepare well and give thanks for the gift of Holy Communion? Does my daily life reflect the love of Jesus in the way I treat others? The Gospel is a salutary reminder of this for us.

Fr David Cartwright

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

We are now offering the Sacrament of Baptism in our churches. For those seeking Baptism for their children, please contact the parish office at [email protected] or phone on (03) 9589 2271.

November - Month of the Holy Souls

It is spiritual work of mercy to pray for the souls of our deceased friends, relatives and benefactors and to have the holy sacrifice of the Mass offered for them.

Remember the beautiful words of Saint Monica as recounted in Saint Augustine’s Confessions, when he was trying to work out where his mother would be buried. Saint Monica said, “Bury my body wherever you will; let not care of it cause you any concern. One thing only I ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord wherever you may be.”

If you would like a Mass offered for deceased loved ones, you can go to www.baysidecatholicmission.org and the tab "Support Us", and indicate in the description section your November Mass intention.

Envelopes may also be collected at the rear of both churches of St Joseph's and Stella Maris.

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,
May perpetual light shine upon them,
May their souls, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Youth Ministry

During our recent Bayside Catholic Mission meeting it was decided to implement a youth ministry across all the bayside churches.

The youth ministry will aim to build courageous and resilient young people with the clear objective to be seen as service oriented youth driven by charity.

We are seeking committed parishioners to assist in further developing this concept with the view to bring our youth closer to Christ and to learn new skills in a post pandemic era that can be used in service to others. We will be issuing further information in the coming weeks and will be inviting expressions of interest for commitment of parishioners to support the program.

Youth activities include but not limited to developing a music ministry, cooking activities, social gatherings, small business projects, bible study with worship and outreach. Please consider whether this important project within the Bayside Catholic Mission is one that aligns with your passions and talents.

Further details and an Expression of Interest (EOI) will be issued in the coming weeks.

If you are interested in being part of this vision and would like more information please email Kevin Dsouza [email protected] or Michael Staunton [email protected]

St Vincent de Paul Soup Van Christmas Hampers 2020

What a year it has been! At one stage we thought we might not be able to prepare Christmas hampers this year but as it turns out we can, and indeed the need is greater than ever. This is our 16th year and for the past 15 years we have prepared approx. 250 hampers each year. This year we have been asked to prepare 500 hampers for Boarding House residents visited by the St Vincent de Paul Soup Van in North Melbourne and Fitzroy along with a number of gift packs for rough sleepers. Contents, shopping, packing and delivery will look quite a bit different due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Items we would like to include in the hampers are as follows:
- towel, hand towel, face washer, pillow case
- toiletries including toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap (packaged, not loose)
- food items: SVDP have confirmed we are able to include packaged food items that are Christmassy e.g. Christmas chocolates or Christmas shortbreads
- clothing: socks (particular in need for rough sleepers)
- nice Christmas gift e.g. notebook, pen, sudoku puzzle, crossword puzzle

Monetary donations can also be made directly to the Soup Van Christmas Hamper Bank Account

Name: Nazareth Catholic Parish Ricketts Point (Christmas Hamper Account)
BSB Number
: 083 347
Account Number
: 249672590

We will pack hampers this year on Sat 12 December and St Vincent de Paul will pick them up Sunday 13 December for delivery with the weekly food. It has been a tough year but if you can support the hampers in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Pilgrim Mary Statue is moving again

It is pleasing to announce that our parish's Pilgrim Statue of Mary is recommencing her journeys around the parish.

Inviting the Statue of Mary to visit your home is always a blessing and an encouragement for prayer, especially for the family to pray together. She is a very easy visitor with only one request, that you say prayers to her every day.

Traditionally it is the rosary or part of the rosary depending upon your situation, with small children one decade of the rosary is usually plenty.

She comes with instructions and we have COVID safe policies for her movement around the parish.

We always welcome more people/families to the roster.

To add yourself or your family to the roster, please contact the parish office at [email protected] or phone on (03) 9589 2271.

Feast of the Presentation of Our Blessed Virgin Mary

Feast of the Presentation of Our Blessed Virgin Mary

The Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated annually on November 21st, commemorates the presentation of the Blessed Virgin as a child by her parents in the Temple in Jerusalem.

Before Mary's birth, her parents received a heavenly message that they would bear a child. In thanksgiving for the God's gift of Mary's birth, they brought her to the Temple to consecrate their only daughter to The Lord.

The celebration of the Feast is first documented in the 11th century within the Byzantine Catholic Church. It was introduced into the Roman Catholic Church in the 15th century by Pope Gregory XI, then removed from the calendar by Pope Pius V in the mid 16th century. Pope...
