Lenten Activities

Thanks to those who are joining in our extra activities for Lent. It was great to see people coming to the Wednesday morning Lenten group and Wednesday night Zoom group; the times of Adoration and the Way of the Cross on Fridays. Special thanks to the young adults from our Mission who are helping with the Fish Supper on Fridays at Stella Maris after the Stations of the Cross. It’s not too late to join some of these activities.

Congratulations to the young people from Sacred Heart who received their First Holy Communion on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and thanks to the families and school staff. Congratulations also to the students from St Joan of Arc and Stella Maris who celebrated their First Reconciliation this week. We are gradually catching up with the celebration of the sacraments from last year

As has been advertised for several weeks, we are seeking nominations from our communities for the formation of our ‘local teams’, from which we will make up our Mission Parish Council and Finance Committees. These nominations close this Sunday evening and may be made via the forms in the churches or by email to [email protected], indicating for which community and which local team (pastoral or finance) you are nominating the person, including their contact details. This is an opportunity for us to invite new members to represent our communities also.

In accordance with volunteer recruiting policies of the Archdiocese and Professional Standards, all nominees will be asked to furnish a Working with Children Card and Police Check and have a brief interview with the priests. This is the policy now in place for the recruitment of all parish volunteers. Bayside Mission is committed to the wellbeing and safety of all children and vulnerable people to make a safe environment for all to flourish. More details about the procedures can be found at https://melbournecatholic.org/...

Readings for the Second Sunday of Lent
Year B

First Reading
Genesis 22:1-2, 9-13, 15-18

Responsorial Psalm

I will walk in the presence of the Lord,
in the land of the living.

Second Reading

Romans 8:31-34

Gospel Acclamation
Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

From the shining cloud the Father's voice is heard:
this is my beloved Son, hear him.
Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

Mark 9:2-10

A Vocation View

If you need an example of a person responding to a vocational call, look at Abraham - called in old age to leave his country, father a child, then asked to sacrifice the child. What faith! Vocation is a risky response to a unique call from God.

Bayside Mission Safeguarding

All communities of the Bayside Catholic Mission are now working together to streamline embedding a culture of safety throughout the Bayside Catholic Mission. Initially you’ll start to notice posters etc, relating to different aspects of safeguarding, around each of our churches and associated parish buildings.

Later, you’ll personally receive more detailed information.

Working with Children Checks

Thank you to all our many volunteers who have already applied for and linked their current WWCC to their local community.

Here’s the link if you haven’t yet applied for, renewed, updated or linked your WWCC.

As volunteers in the Bayside Catholic Mission we are all responding to God’s call to serve Him in our own unique ways.

Volunteers, being any person undertaking any activity within the Bayside Catholic Mission in addition to or asides from attendance at Mass, are required to hold a current WWCC linked to their local parish. There are no exceptions to this since children are part of our parish and we have a moral and legal duty to protect them.

“Let the little children come to me and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of Heaven belongs.” Matthew 19:14.

Margret is a teacher at a vocational school for deaf students in the Solomon Islands that suffered long-term water shortages and damage from Tropical Cyclone Harold. With Caritas Australia’s support, Margret’s school installed water tanks, repaired cyclone damage and implemented COVID-19 prevention measures, and is now planning to boost food security.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2021 and help people living with disabilities in the Solomon Islands gain access to education and clean water, empowering them with skills to protect our common home.

You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes which are at the rear of the church or by visiting www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion or phoning 1800 024 413.
