Message from Parish Priest

Welcome back! It is wonderful to be able to welcome many of you back home to Mass this weekend. Whilst we are not quite back to where we were, there are signs of hope for all of us!

Our limited numbers and DHHS regulations mean we need to abide by some procedures. We need to make sure we have contact tracing details for all who enter the churches; the TryBooking system will capture these for us.

To make life easier for our parish helpers at the Masses, can we ask a couple of favours please? Please arrive no later than ten minutes before the scheduled Mass time. The doors will be open from thirty minutes beforehand, so we have a window of twenty minutes to register and seat everyone.

Household groups can sit together; others will need to socially distance inside the church. Masks need to be worn during Mass; please lower your mask when approaching for Holy Communion, and return it when returning to your seat; Please sanitise your hands on entry to the church. Please book on line to avoid disappointment. We are still limited to a certain number of people per square metre, and this number is displayed in each church.

At this time, we are still unable to bring Holy Communion to the sick and housebound, but we continue to hold them in prayer until the time we can visit again.

May you and your loved ones enjoy this blessed season of Advent in joyful hope.

Fr David Cartwright

Confessions will be available on Saturday mornings between 10.00am and 11.00am at Stella Maris Church, Beaumaris.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.

Youth Ministry

During our recent Bayside Catholic Mission meeting it was decided to implement a youth ministry across all the bayside churches.

The youth ministry will aim to build courageous and resilient young people with the clear objective to be seen as service oriented youth driven by charity.

We are seeking committed parishioners to assist in further developing this concept with the view to bring our youth closer to Christ and to learn new skills in a post pandemic era that can be used in service to others. We will be issuing further information in the coming weeks and will be inviting expressions of interest for commitment of parishioners to support the program.

Youth activities include but not limited to developing a music ministry, cooking activities, social gatherings, small business projects, bible study with worship and outreach. Please consider whether this important project within the Bayside Catholic Mission is one that aligns with your passions and talents.

Further details and an Expression of Interest (EOI) will be issued in the coming weeks.

If you are interested in being part of this vision and would like more information please email Kevin Dsouza [email protected] or Michael Staunton [email protected]

Working with Children Check

Children's Week Activity: "Just as I have loved you"

How to participate

To celebrate Children’s Week this year, we are inviting all children and young people (from the ages of 4 years to 17) to participate in an activity. We want you to share with us what the words “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (Jn 13:34) mean to you through a drawing or artwork (mixed media).

Entries should include the completed submission form and can be sent to [email protected] before 5pm on 18 December 2020. (Parents are welcome to answer the question on behalf of their child/ren if they are too young to do so.) For more information please visit

It is important to note that this is not a competition, but a reflection and an opportunity for adults to hear the voice of our young ones. Those who participate will be invited to an online gathering with Archbishop Peter A Comensoli following the activity.

St Vincent de Paul Soup Van Christmas Hampers 2020

What a year it has been! At one stage we thought we might not be able to prepare Christmas hampers this year but as it turns out we can, and indeed the need is greater than ever. This is our 16th year and for the past 15 years we have prepared approx. 250 hampers each year. This year we have been asked to prepare 500 hampers for Boarding House residents visited by the St Vincent de Paul Soup Van in North Melbourne and Fitzroy along with a number of gift packs for rough sleepers. Contents, shopping, packing and delivery will look quite a bit different due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Items we would like to include in the hampers are as follows:

- towel, hand towel, face washer, pillow case
- toiletries including toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap (packaged, not loose), deodorant
- food items: SVDP have confirmed we are able to include packaged food items that are Christmassy e.g. Christmas chocolates or Christmas shortbreads
- clothing: socks (particular in need for rough sleepers)
- nice Christmas gift e.g. notebook, pen, sudoku puzzle, crossword puzzle

A special collection will be taken up at Masses this weekend on Sunday 29 November.

Monetary donations can also be made directly to the Soup Van Christmas Hamper Bank Account

Name: Nazareth Catholic Parish Ricketts Point (Christmas Hamper Account)
BSB Number
: 083 347
Account Number
: 249672590

We will pack hampers this year on Saturday 12 December and St Vincent de Paul will pick them up Sunday 13 December for delivery with the weekly food.

Please note there are restrictions on how many people are allowed in the Multi-Purpose Room at any one time so please look in next weeks bulletin for details if you would like to help pack. It has been a tough year but if you can support the hampers in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.
